What to Expect in a 4 Hour Trip
Quick trip in the in the harbour
Banderas Bay is 773 square kilometres. It takes roughly 1 and a half hours to travel to the edge of the bay from ports in Nuevo Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, because of the time to travel to the outer edge of the bay a 4 hour trip is likely completely spent in the mid harbour area. The good news is that you can still catch some amazing fish in this area. If you are looking for a morning trip with the family this would be a great way to go.
You can look to catch some Crevalle Jack and Bonita in this area, both of these species are guaranteed to give you a good fight. Click here to see what types of fish you can expect to catch depending on your time on the water after leaving Nuevo Nayarit.
What to Expect in 6 - 12 Hour Trip
When leaving from Puerto Vallarta or Nueveo Nayarit, it will take one and a half to 2 hours to reach the edge of the bay. As you go further out the odds of catching bigger fish and bigger species of fish increase. 6 hours will take you well into the deep waters but your time will be a bit more limited. We have many 6 hour trips that take you out to deep ocean and successfully catch big Mahi-mahi and even Sailfish.
Increasing your time from Nayarit will increase you actual time with lines in the water and thus, increase your chances of landing the big ones.
12 hour trips will get you way out there. The further out, the bigger the fish.

Whale Watching

It’s starting to get hot in Nayarit about this time. Not a problem, just come prepared and we suggest the long sleeved fishing shirts you see in the pictures, they keep the sun out and the air in.

The whales will be heading back up north through these months, but, you never know, maybe you’ll get lucky.
